NEWPORT NEWS, Va. – George Mason Softball catcher Nicole Bechtel was named this week's Atlantic 10 Player of the Week, the conference announced Monday afternoon. This is Bechtel's first career conference award with the Patriots.

This week, Nicole Bechtel had a slash line of .857 / .917 / 1.857. The Harrisburg, Pa., native led the Patriots in average (.857), on-base percentage (.917), slugging percentage (1.857), hits (6) and RBI (8).

The redshirt junior recorded a multi-hit game in every game last weekend and finished her last two games batting 1.000. She hit a solo home run in both of her Saturday games against Dayton, as well as a bases-clearing double. On Sunday's game, she went 2-for-2 with 2 RBI and 2 BB.

Nicole Bechtel now leads the team in batting average (.368). She is also second in hits (43) and on-base percentage (.453).

Bechtel (.368 / .453 / .573) and the Patriots (28-17, 14-6 A-10) will come back home to play Georgetown in a single Wednesday game. They will then travel to Saint Louis to face off against the Billikens in a three-game weekend series. After this weekend's games, Saint Louis now holds the top spot in the Atlantic 10, having won their last eight consecutive games. They are now 23-22 overall with a 15-4 conference record.
