FAIRFAX, Va. – The George Mason women's lacrosse team fell to the VCU Rams by a score of 16-9 on Senior Day.
Prior to the game, the coaching staff, fans and family honored the four members of the senior class,
Meghan Deehan,
Morgan Gunn,
Olivia Heaton and
Makayla Hutchinson.
Deehan had a stellar day in cage, making 12 saves and scooping up a ground ball. Her 12 saves are her third game this season with 12+ and her second-straight game with double-digit saves.
Senior
Shannon Tuozzo led the offense with three goals and a season-high two assists for five points. She also won two draw controls.
The Rams (7-9, 3-5) opened the game with four-straight goals and held on to the lead the rest of the way. Senior
Chloe Reed returned to the field for the first time since March 25 and opened the scoring for Mason with 4:46 remaining in the first on a free position shot. She scored her second of the day with eight seconds to go to cut the lead to 5-3.
The Patriots (2-12, 2-6) scored the first goal of the second quarter, but VCU rattled off five-straight to close the half and take a 10-4 lead into the break.
Mason scored three of the next four goals from three different players to pull within four at 11-7 with 6:22 remaining in the third. However, VCU ended the game on a 5-2 run to provide the final tally.
