Fairfax, Va. – The George Mason women's tennis team battled hard against Fordham, one of the top teams in the Atlantic 10 Conference, but came up short to finish its season with a 10-6 record, 2-3 in the conference. The Rams end its season 11-7, 5-1, one of the top records in the A-10.
"We lost to a top tier conference team and we battled," said Head Coach Steve Curtis. "We have them worried at times throughout the match. It was a good preparation for A-10 Championships."
The match opened with Fordham winning the doubles point, winning all three matches.
The Rams then won the match with three straight set wins at second, third, and fourth singles.
A few of the matches were close, including at the top singles position. The Patriots
Paige La won the first set 7-6(5) against Valeriya Deminova, but was losing 4-1 in the second before the match was called.
The number five singles was also a close match with the Rams Lorraine Bergmann edging the Patriots
Lauren Splett, 7-5, in the first set, and leading 3-1 in the second before the match went unfinished.
The Patriots honored its senior class on Saturday, but were unable to play the match against Saint Joseph's because of the weather.
