NCAA Division I Individual Scholar All-Americans
Manheim, Pa.-- The George Mason University wrestling program was honored by the National Wrestling Coaches Association (NWCA) for its academic success. The coaches association announced its annual 2023 Top 30 Scholar All-America Teams and Individual honorees among the 73 wrestling Division I programs.
Mason finished a program-best fifth place as a team to earn a Top 30 distinction for the fourth straight year and four Patriots were name NWCA Scholar All-Americans. The top five ranking is the second time in Patriots' history, attaining that finish last in 2020-21.
This year, 291 wrestlers were recognized for their academic achievements and commitment to the sport of wrestling.
For the second straight year sophomore
Logan Messer earned NWCA Scholar All-America honor. First-time honorees include Andrew Dickson,
Anthony Glasl, and
Peter Pappas.
Mason earned a team 3.480 GPA, the second-best in the 13-team Mid-American Conference, with three other MAC teams in the top 30. Cleveland State finished second (3.546), Kent State (3.464) just behind Mason at nine, along with Clarion (15) and Lock Haven (29).
In the overall team race, Drexel University finished atop the field with a 3.611 GPA.
The NWCA Executive Director, Mike Moyer, praised the recipients for their dedication to both their athletic and academic pursuits, saying, "Wrestling takes much focus and sacrifice, and we are proud to honor these wrestlers' obvious commitment to their academic pursuits!"
