FAIRFAX, Va. – The George Mason women's lacrosse team is back in action on the road this Saturday when it travels to St. Bonaventure, N.Y. to take on the Bonnies.
In the ninth installment of the series, Mason will look to remain undefeated against St. Bonaventure, going 8-0 since 2007. Last season, the Patriots downed the Bonnies 15-7 in Fairfax.
The Bonnies currently sit at 4-9 on the season, including 2-4 in Atlantic 10 play with wins over VCU and Duquesne. However, two of their losses to Davidson and Saint Joseph's were by two goals or less. Most recently, they fell to the Hawks 13-11.
Mason is also 2-4 in Atlantic 10 plays with wins over La Salle and Duquesne. This past Saturday, the Patriots fell to Davidson, 17-9, at home.
PATRIOT POINTS
- After another four-goal performance, junior Kate Elam has jumped into second on the team in both goals (18) and tied-for-second in points (22). She has scored 12 goals in the last three games.
- Senior Shannon Tuozzo continues to lead the Patriots on offense with 34 goals (3rd, A-10) and 39 points. Her five assists are second on the team.
- Tuozzo is also first on the team in draw controls with 55 (6th, A-10) while sophomore Lauren Distad is second with 35
- Defensively, junior Melanie Hutchinson leads Mason with 12 caused turnovers and is one of seven different Patriots to register double-digit ground balls
- Senior Meghan Deehan leads the team with 18 ground balls. She is also fifth in the Atlantic 10 with 8.25 saves/game
SCOUTING THE BONNIES
St. Bonaventure is led on the offense end by the underclassmen duo of Fiona McGovern and Jessica Notaro. McGovern is first on the team across all point categories with 32 goals, 15 assists and 47 points which all rank in the top-10 in the conference. Notaro is second on the team 29 goals and 32 points.
Brooke Piper leads the Bonnies in the midfield with 36 draw controls while also contributing 23 points and 10 ground balls. Defensively, Brit Colangelo leads St. Bonaventure with 18 caused turnovers and is second with 27 ground balls.
Starting goalkeeper Ashley Herrick ranks first in the Atlantic 10 with 9.38 saves/game while boasting a .419 save percentage (3
rd, A-10). She is also first on the team with 28 ground balls (8
th, A-10).
