Game Recap: Women's Lacrosse |
WASHINGTON, D.C. – It was a back-and-forth battle between the Revolutionary Rivals, but the George Mason women's lacrosse team was ultimately edged by George Washington, 13-11, in Atlantic 10 play.

The Patriots (2-9, 2-3) were led by a season-high four goals from Kate Elam. It is the second-straight game that she reached the mark as she was one of three Patriots to register a hat-trick on the afternoon.

Mason jumped out to an early 3-1 lead with 5:41 remaining in the first quarter, but a four-goal run by George Washington gave the hosts a 5-3 lead with less than two minutes remaining. However, senior Morgan Gunn netted her first of the day with just seconds on the clock to cut the lead back to one.

The Colonials (3-9, 2-3) scored the first goal of the second quarter, but George Mason would score four of the next five to regain the lead with six minutes to go in the half. The teams held each other scoreless until 10 seconds remaining when GW would tie the game at eight going into the break.

It was a back-and-forth battle in the third as both teams traded goals throughout the 15 minutes, highlighted by two Elam goals. The junior scored with under two minutes to go to knot the game at 11 going into the final stanza.

George Washington was able to hold Mason scoreless over the last 15 minutes and needed just two tallies to take the conference win, 13-11.
