NEWPORT NEWS, Va. – George Mason left fielder Elyssa DeRosa has been named the Atlantic 10's Rookie of the Week for the second consecutive week, the conference announced Wednesday.
Over this past weekend at the Palmer Park Clash, the Corning, N.Y., native went 7-for-14 and led the team with six RBI. Her offense and clutch hits played a major role in the Patriots' wins over the weekend. In Saturday afternoon's game against Fairfield when the Patriots were down 5-7 in the top of the seventh inning, DeRosa hit a bases-clearing double that gave the Patriots the lead and eventually the win on the day. On Sunday's game against Saint Francis, the freshman hit two doubles totaling three RBI.
The freshman was also a team leader in batting average, on base percentage and slugging (.500 / .500 / .857). Along with her six RBI, she had two runs, three doubles and one triple on the weekend.
Currently among all players in the A-10, Elyssa DeRosa is first in OPS (1.323) and triples (3) and second in batting average (.444). She is also second in slugging percentage (.778), only behind fellow teammate and multi-Player of the Week recipient, Haley Taormina (.829)
This is Elyssa's second Atlantic 10 award of the season and second of her career.
Elyssa DeRosa and the Green & Gold will return home March 11-12 and face Binghamton in a four-game weekend series. Both double headers will have the same start times of noon and 2:30 p.m.
