Fairfax, Va. – The George Mason women's tennis team battled Fairleigh Dickinson today indoors at the Tose Family Center in Annapolis, Md. The Knights defeated the Patriots 4-1.
"The Knights came out firing on all cylinders, while we started a little slowly," said Head Coach Steve Curtis. "We fought our way back but fell short today. Now we shift to outdoors and prepare for our SpringFest matches in Hilton Head."
FDU took the doubles point with wins at the top two positions. Mason's team of
Jackie Nannery and
Lauren Splett won their doubles match, 6-3. The point came down to a tiebreaker in the No. 2 match where FDU's team of Silva and Bhagia edged
Emily Wirt and
Jenin Alasadi, 7-6(6).
Mason tied the match at 1-1 with a No. 2 singles win by
Taylor Garcia. The grad student quickly disposed of Shreya Gulia, 6-1, 6-2.
Fairleigh Dickinson would win the next three singles at Nos. 3, 4, and 6 to clinch the match.
Mason drops to 4-2 on the season.
Up Next: George Mason travels to Hilton Head for the PTR Springfest March 12-15. The Patriots will play Saint Francis, Lafayette, and A10 opponents George Washington and Saint Louis.
