Patriots Open Atlantic 10 Play at Saint Joseph’s

FAIRFAX, Va. – The George Mason women's lacrosse team will travel to Philadelphia this weekend for its' first conference game of the season against the reigning Atlantic 10 Champions.
 
This is the 17th all-time meeting between the two-programs, with Mason holding a 10-6 edge over Saint Joseph's. However, since joining the conference, the Hawks have won five of the eight contests, including last season at George Mason Stadium, 16-6. 
 
Both teams are coming off of tough weekend losses, with the Patriots dropping a 16-10 decision to the Oregon Ducks and the Hawks falling to cross-town rival Temple, 13-10.
 
PATRIOT POINTS
  • Senior Shannon Tuozzo remains the team leader in points (16), goals (13) and draw controls (19) and has registered hat tricks in three of six games this season
  • The senior duo of Chloe Reed and Morgan Gunn are second on the team with 10 points each. Gunn is coming off of her best offensive game of her career against Oregon, netting four goals for her first career hat trick
  • Sophomore Lauren Distad is second on the team with 17 draw controls and is a team co-leader in assists with four
  • Defensively, Melanie Hutchinson leads the team with five caused turnovers and a team second-best seven ground balls. She has also matched Distad's four assists
  • Gunn and junior Ciara Curtis lead Mason with eight ground balls and three caused turnovers a piece
  • Senior Meghan Deehan is averaging 9.0 saves per game with a .403 save percentage. She is also second on the team with seven ground balls and four caused turnovers
 
SCOUTING THE HAWKS
The 2022 Atlantic 10 Champions have opened the season at 1-5, with all five losses coming on the road. Three of those losses are by three goals or less and opponents are averaging just 12.0 goals/game. Saint Joe's won their first game at home against Towson in an 8-6 thriller.
 
Bonnie Yu is the team leader is points (16), goals (12) and assists (4) and scored a career-high five goals in the loss to Temple this past Saturday. She is also second on the team in draw controls (13) and caused turnovers (5) while converting 75% of her free position attempts (3-4).

Maddie Yoder has also scored 12 goals this season, and has netted at least one in every game this year. Against then-No. 2 Maryland, the sophomore scored four of SJU's five on the day. Riley Evans leads the Hawks with 26 draw controls while also contributing eight goals. Defensively, MaryRose Berry leads Saint Joseph's with 14 ground balls and six caused turnovers and goalkeeper Jorden Concordia averages over nine saves per game at a .450 save percentage.
 
UP NEXT
The Patriots will return to Fairfax for their A-10 home opener versus La Salle. Opening draw is set for 1 p.m.
