FAIRFAX, Va. – Two George Mason softball student athletes were named in this week's Atlantic 10 weekly honors, the conference announced Tuesday. Graduate student pitcher Aly Rayle was named A-10 Pitcher of the Week, while freshman outfielder Elyssa DeRosa took Rookie of the Week.

This is the first Atlantic 10 award for either Patriot in their Mason softball careers.

Pitcher of the Week – Aly Rayle: 6.0 IP, 1 H, 1 R, 0 ER, 12 K, 0 Extra Base Hits, 1 Win

On a snowy Saturday Afternoon, Aly Rayle tossed a no-hitter in Saturday's win over Holy Cross. The Herndon, Va., native struck out ten of the 16 batters she faced and did not allow any walks. Her dominant performance in the circle helped secure Mason's first home win of the season, as the Patriots rolled past the Crusaders 9-1 in five innings.

Rayle made another appearance over the weekend, which was during the second game of Sunday's double header with Holy Cross. In one inning of work, she added two more strikeouts to her weekend total.

Rookie of the Week – Elyssa DeRosa: .625 / .667 / 1.250, 2 R, 5 H, 1 2B, 2 3B, 2 SB

In all three starts, Elyssa DeRosa's bat stayed hot during the cold temperatures, as the left fielder had the team's best batting average, on base percentage and slugging over the weekend. Her ability to get on base and steal bases played a major role in sealing two Mason wins.

In Game 1, the freshman from Corning, N.Y., went 2-for-3 with one run scored and a stolen base, 2-for-3 in Game 2, which included a triple and another run scored, and 1-for-2 in Game 3, where she stole a base and tripled again.

UP NEXT

The Patriots will head to Charlottesville, Va., to participate in the Palmer Park Clash, hosted by Virginia. They will face off against Saint Francis, Fairfield twice and the 'Hoos. Mason's first game will be against Saint Francis on Saturday, March 4. First pitch is set for 10 a.m.
