Fairfax, Va. -- The 2023 Peter N. Stearns Provost Scholar Athletes were honored at a ceremony on campus for their outstanding academic achievements.

In its 15th year, the award recognizes the student-athletes who have earned at least 38 credit hours at Mason and have achieved a cumulative grade point average of 3.75 or better. More than 50 student-athletes earned the award this year. George Mason Provost Mark Ginsberg and Interim Director of Athletics Nena Rogers congratulated this year's recipients at the ceremony.

"It's an honor to highlight our student-athletes at this prestigious event who have been absolutely fantastic in the classroom," said Nena Rogers. "Our student-athletes have established a high standard - allowing us to attract some of the best and brightness individuals to George Mason. The Provost Scholars have shown leadership, talent and commitment. Their success is Mason's success."

Mason student-athletes have posted a department GPA that has exceeded the general population for eight consecutive years.  In 2021-22, Mason had 11 teams with a cumulative team GPA of 3.30 or higher, including three teams with a 3.50 GPA or higher. 

Twenty sports were represented by the 51 student-athletes to earn the honor. There were 23 first-time honorees and 28 student-athletes who have received the award before. Fourteen student-athletes have been named Provost Scholar Athletes at least three times – including one four-year recipient, Noelle Saine (Women's Cross Country/Track & Field).
