GENEVA, Ohio – The 2023 Atlantic 10 Swimming and Diving Championships concluded on Saturday at the SPIRE Institute in Geneva, Ohio.
The Mason men's team finished second for the third straight year, while the Patriots' women's team placed third.
On the men's side, the George Washington Colonials won the Atlantic 10 Championship for the third straight year (783), with George Mason second (507.5) and Massachusetts third (458). Davidson was fourth (456.5), followed by Fordham (408.5), St. Bonaventure (357), La Salle (278) and Saint Louis (188.5).
Freshman
Tate Anderson won the silver with a second-place finish in the championship final of the 200-yard backstroke (1:44.61). Junior
Jackson Brookover placed fourth (1:45.48) and sophomore
Joe Durocher was seventh (1:46.90).
Sophomore
Tyler Lentine claimed the bronze in the championship final of the 200-yard breaststroke (1:57.73). In the consolation final of the event, senior
Thomas Chapman touched the wall second (2:00.67).
The Patriots won the bronze in the 400-yard freestyle relay, with the team of senior
Josh Fletcher, sophomores
Alexander Franklin and
Zane Roberts and Anderson third with a time of 2:56.41.
In the 1650-yard freestyle, senior
Jackson Knouse placed 12th (15:58.81) and freshman
Max Fermayer was 15th (16:05.42).
In the championship final of the 100-yard freestyle, Roberts placed fourth (44.37), Fletcher finished fifth (44.47) and junior
Anthony Nguyen was eighth (45.16). In the consolation final, freshman
Joshua Hochard placed seventh (45.41).
Freshman
Sam Rivas placed second in the consolation final of the 200-yard butterfly (1:50.86).
On the women's side, George Washington won the A-10 title for the second straight year (794.5), with Richmond second (479.5) and George Mason third (414). Duquesne was fourth (413.5), followed by Fordham (413), Davidson (310), Massachusetts (255), La Salle (218.5), St. Bonaventure (190), Saint Louis (119) and Rhode Island (83).
The Mason women's team has finished among the top-three teams at the championships each of the last three years.
Sophomore
Ali Tyler won the A-10 championship in the 200-yard backstroke for the second straight year (1:55.79).
In the consolation final of the event, sophomore
Anka Whelan placed fourth (1:59.72).
Graduate student
Jacquee Clabeaux won the A-10 title in the 200-yard breaststroke with a new A-10 record time of 2:11.27. She won the silver medal in the event last year with a time of 2:12.62.
The Patriots won the gold and set a new meet and program record in the 400-yard freestyle relay for the second straight year. The team of graduate student
Madison Nalls, sophomore
Emma DeJong, Tyler and Clabeaux won the event with a time of 3:17.94.
DeJong took the silver in the championship final of the 100-yard freestyle (49.92), with Nalls sixth in the event (50.76).
In the championship final of the 200-yard butterfly, junior
Abigail Murtaugh claimed the bronze (1:59.60). In the consolation final of the event, sophomore
Emma Burke finished sixth (2:05.52).
The Atlantic 10 Championships are the final team competition of the 2022-23 season.
