GREENVILLE, N.C. – Despite a season low six turnovers, the George Mason women's lacrosse team fell 14-2 to the East Carolina Pirates.
The Pirates (2-1) scored the first two goals of the game before freshman
Kaitlyn Bestick scored for the third-straight game to get Mason on the board. ECU scored two more during the last three minutes of the first quarter to lead 4-1 after the first.
The Patriots (0-3) got on the board first in the second off a goal from senior
Shannon Tuozzo just over a minute in to cut the lead back to two, 4-2, but the Pirates closed the half out on a three-goal run to lead 7-2 at the halftime break.
ECU locked down on defense, not allowing a Mason goal for the rest of the game. The Patriots totaled nine shots in the half, seven of which were on goal, but ECU's Brynn Knight did not let anything pass the goal line.
The Pirates found the net seven more times in the game to provide the final tally, 14-2.

- Bestick and Tuozzo have now recorded at least one goal in each of the Patriots' first three games this season
- Mason won the ground ball battle, 14-12, led by three from freshman Gabby Rizzio
- Rizzio was also one of four Patriots to record a caused turnover, compared to none by the Pirates
- Senior goalkeeper Meghan Deehan made nine saves on the day to go along with a ground ball and a caused turnover
