GENEVA, Ohio – The George Mason men's and women's swimming and diving teams completed the first day of competition at the 2023 Atlantic 10 Championships at the SPIRE Institute in Geneva, Ohio.

Day one is the shortest day of competition, with the women's one-meter diving event and both the women's and men's 200-yard medley relay and 800-yard freestyle relay.

On the women's side, the team of graduate student
Jacquee Clabeaux, senior
Leah Riley and sophomores
Ali Tyler and
Shannon Judge placed second in the 200-yard medley relay (1:39.75). In the 800-yard freestyle relay, Mason just missed the podium with a fourth-place finish (7:21.56).

The George Washington Colonials lead (136 points), with Duquesne second (94 points) and Richmond and Davidson tied for third (72 points). Fordham is fourth (71 points), followed by George Mason (64 points), Massachusetts (55 points), La Salle (49 points), Saint Louis (37 points), St. Bonaventure (36 points) and Rhode Island (29 points).

On the men's side, the combination of seniors
Sammy Lucht and
Josh Fletcher along with sophomores
Alexander Franklin and
Tyler Lentine placed second in the 200-yard medley relay (1:27.51). In the 800-yard freestyle relay, junior
Anthony Nguyen, sophomore
Zane Roberts and freshmen
Tate Anderson and
Max Fermayer claimed the bronze with a third-place finish (6:33.43).

The George Washington Colonials have the lead after day one (80 points), with George Mason second (66 points) and Davidson third (62 points). Fordham and St. Bonaventure are tied for fourth (56 points), followed by La Salle (54 points), Massachusetts (52 points) and Saint Louis (24 points).

The Atlantic 10 Swimming and Diving Championships continue Thursday, with the 500-yard freestyle, 200-yard IM, 50-yard freestyle and men's one-meter diving. Preliminaries are scheduled to begin at 10 a.m. and finals at 6:30 p.m.
