FAIRFAX, Va. – The George Mason women's lacrosse team will open the home portion of the 2023 season on Wednesday, Feb. 15, when it welcomes Longwood to George Mason Stadium.

The Lancers are the first of two Big South members to travel to Fairfax, as Mason will also host Campbell in March. Wednesday's match-up will also be the season opener for Longwood, a team that went 3-6 in league play and 6-11 overall a year ago.

This is the eighth all-time meeting between the two programs, dating back to 2013. The two teams have met every year (sans 2020 and 2021 due to cancellation) with Mason holding a 6-1 edge over the Lancers. Since a loss in 2013, the Patriots have rattled off six-straight victories.

On Wednesday, the Patriots are Lacing Up 4 Pediatric Cancer to support the Go4theGoal Foundation to help kids battling cancer.

Lace Up 4 Pediatric Cancer began in the fall of 2011.  Since then, professional, college and youth teams have participated in raising funds and awareness for the #1 disease killer of children.  To date, over a half million athletes have supported our cause.  $4 from every $5 pair of laces and 100% of all donations directly benefit kids and families in the state where the funds are raised.

Go4theGoal works to improve the lives of children battling cancer by providing financial assistance, granting special wishes, developing unique hospital programs, and funding innovative research.  Learn more about Go4theGoal and how you can help to make a difference by visiting Go4theGoal.org.

UP NEXT
Mason will get back on a road, this time traveling south, to take on the Pirates of East Carolina. Opening draw from Greenville is set for noon.
