Fairfax, Va. – The George Mason golf program is tied for ninth after the opening round at the Advance Golf Partners Collegiate hosted by UNC Greensboro.
Mason is tied with Colgate and Oakland with a team score of 302 in the 21-team field.
Colin Slater leads the Patriots after the opening round with a two-over-par 74 on the par 72, 7,169-yard Hammock Creek Golf Club. Slater finished the first nine 3-over-par, but ended strong with birdies at holes 16 and 17 to finish two-over-par and tied for 25th overall.
Mason freshmen
Samir Davidov and
Aryan Vuradi each added a three-over-par 75.
Davidov had four bogeys and one birdie. Vuradi began the day with a double-bogey then was steady throughout the match with16 straight pars before finishing with a bogey on hole 18.
Nikita Gubenko finished the Patriots scoring with a 78.
Mason was without its top golfer grad student
JP Miller. A preseason injury has knocked the grad student out of the line-up and from defending his title at the 2022 Advance Golf Partners Collegiate. The medalist honors marked Miller's first collegiate win and helped George Mason to a third-place finish in the 21-team field last season.
Tee Times: 18 holes on Monday with tee times beginning at 7:30 a.m. ET. A shotgun start on Tuesday concludes the event at 8:30 a.m.
