FAIRFAX, Va. – The George Mason women's and men's swimming and diving teams are both in third place after the first day of competition at the Patriot Invitational at the Aquatic and Fitness Center.

On the women's side, Florida Atlantic leads with 312 points, followed by Towson (221), George Mason (188), Richmond (168), St. Bonaventure (144), American (107), Marist (59) and UNCW (18).

The Patriots went two-three in the 500-yard freestyle, with junior
Ali Tyler second (4:55.57) and freshman
Kristen Ivey third (4:58.29).

In the 200-yard IM, sophomore
Anka Whelan placed fifth (2:04.63) and junior
Emma DeJong finished seventh (2:05.69).

The team of junior
Shannon Judge, sophomores
Peyton Brehmer and
Ally Yeary along with Tyler touched the wall second in the 200-yard freestyle relay (1:33.43).

The combination of senior
Abigail Murtaugh, Tyler, DeJong and Brehmer took third in the 400-yard medley relay (3:46.97).

In the three-meter diving event, junior
Emma McDonald placed eighth with a finals score of 2:27.30.

On the men's side, Florida Atlantic leads with 307 points, followed by Towson (287), George Mason (167), St. Bonaventure (153), Marist (104), American (90), UNCW (57) and Marymount (36).

Zane Roberts touched the wall second in the 50-yard freestyle (20.29), with sophomore
Tate Anderson fifth in the event (20.53).

In the 500-yard freestyle, freshman
Alex Crown took third (4:29.21).

Ian Rodgers, Anderson and Roberts placed third in the 200-yard freestyle relay (1:20.91).

Tyler Lentine, Anderson, Rodgers and Roberts finished third (3:17.17).

The second day of competition is Friday, with the prelims scheduled to begin at 10 a.m., diving at 1 p.m. and finals at 6 p.m. at the Aquatic and Fitness Center.
