October 9, 2023—The Mason women's tennis team played a pair of matches this weekend at the Hidden Duals, hosted by Mason. The Patriots defeated Mount St. Mary's and fell to Howard.
 
The Patriots found success in doubles action winning five of the eight matches played. The Green and Gold's doubles tandem of Emily Wirt and Jenin Alasadi won both matches blanking their opponents, 6-0. The team's duo of Lauren Splett and Brooklyn Siegel were also successful with two wins. The Mason pair defeated the Mount's team of Ana Alvarez Storni and Ryan McCarthy, 7-6(9-7) and the Bison's team, 7-6(4).
 
Cenan Liu won both singles matches at the No. 2 position defeating the Mount's Ana Alvarez-Storni, 6-1, 6-1, and earning a three-set win against Howard's Selah Stibbins, 7-5, 2-6, 10-7.
 
The Patriots defeated Mount St. Mary's, 8-2, winning all three doubles matches and five of the seven singles matches.
 
The Patriots had singles wins from Cenan Liu, Maitree Diksha Root, Brooklyn Siegel, Dana Edson, and Maïlys Faur.
 
A strong Howard squad won seven of the eight singles matches and three of the five doubles matches. Three singles matches went to the tiebreaker set, with Howard winning two matches.
 
The Patriots will host the fundraiser UTR Tournament next weekend, Oct. 14-15.
