Fairfax, Va. – The George Mason Athletic Department celebrated the dedication of the newly renovated wrestling room in honor of longtime supporter and wrestling alum Dan Wotring on Saturday night, the eve before former Patriot standout was inducted into the George Mason Wrestling Hall of Fame.

The newly named Wotring Family Wrestling Room recognizes the former wrestler and his family's passionate support to George Mason spanning more than five decades.

"Dan has been a tireless advocate for George Mason Wrestling, dedicating countless hours to attending matches and events, offering guidance to GMU coaches and the team, and delivering unwavering support to the program," said Head Coach Frank Beasley. "It was Dan who spearheaded the wrestling room renovation project. The naming of the Wotring Family Wrestling Room stands as a lasting testament to our profound appreciation for this extraordinary family."

Athletics leadership gathered with Mason coaches, wrestling student-athletes, alumni, family and friends of the Wotrings during Wrestling's Hall of Fame Weekend for this special event held prior to the team's annual wrestle-offs.

"We are so grateful to celebrate and recognize Dan, Patty and the Wotring family for the immeasurable impact they have had on countless student-athletes and coaches for more than five decades," said Marvin Lewis, Assistant Vice President and Director of Athletics. "The Wotring Family Wrestling Room is a testament to Dan and the love and passion he has for our wrestling program and university. Each time a student, coach or staff member enters the The Wotring Family Wrestling Room - they will learn about Dan's impactful story and legacy. On behalf of Mason Athletics, we express our sincere gratitude to Dan for his unwavering commitment, support and generosity."

Dan, along with his wife Patty, an alum of the Mason women's basketball team, have generously supported the wrestling team and numerous other contributions to our university. In 2011, they established the Daniel R. and Margaret P. Wotring Wrestling Scholarship Endowment, the first endowed scholarship designated for men's wrestling at Mason.

Their impact extends even further through sponsorship of the annual Alumni-Athlete Giving Challenge, Dan's longstanding involvement as a member of the Patriot Elite Wrestling Club Board and the naming of the George Mason University Outstanding Wrestler Award in his honor reflect his enduring commitment to our wrestling program.
