FAIRFAX, Va. – George Mason sophomore pitcher
Chad Gartland has initiated a fund-raising campaign to support the Fairfax City Fire Department this season.
A
GoFundMe page has been established and the Patriots will donate $10 for every strikeout that Gartland records during the 2023 campaign.
Gartland, who's father is a firefighter in Rochester, N.Y., has the nickname of "The Fireman" for being able to pitch in any role and get the team out of difficult situations on the field.
The Patriots challenge all fans, alumni, friends of the program and anyone who wants to make a difference to match the donation this spring to give back to local heroes who often don't get enough of the spotlight.
The Patriots will also honor the Fairfax City Fire Department at the team's Atlantic 10 game against Dayton on Friday, April 8 at Spuhler Field.
