FAIRFAX, Va. –
Jack Ikenberry demolished his own 5k record by 11 seconds in a record-breaking weekend at the Patriot Games.
Ikenberry ran with a time of 14:14.59, which broke his previous school record at 14:25.84. The next three runners in the 5k for Mason also put their names in the school's record books with the third, fourth and fifth best performances. Those were
Wesley Bond (14:29.18),
Robbie Jenkins who posted the all-time freshmen record (14:32.64) and
Mason Love (14:33.49).
"Excellent day for the events we targeted. By and large, we accomplished what we needed out of this weekend, the highlight probably being the men's 5k where the front four guys -
Jack Ikenberry, Wes Bond, Rob Jenkins and
Mason Love - cranked a new school record, a freshman school record and four of the top five performances all-time indoors at Mason," said Coach Gerard. "In the big picture, the meet was back to being the Fieldhouse of old - tons of energy from engaged fans, full stands, people lining the rails on the balcony, lots of alums and families in attendance - it was awesome to have the energy back in the building!"
Some other highlights for the men included
Paul McClain, who finished first in the 500m (1:05.60).
Makai Lewis,
Nathan Polizzi,
Alex Lombardo and
Paul McClain took home gold in the 4x400m with a time of 3:22.87.
