NORFOLK, Va. – The George Mason women's swimming and diving team defeated Old Dominion, 140-122, and downed Campbell, 164-97, while the men's team earned a 157-105 win over Old Dominion on Saturday in Norfolk, Va.
On the women's side, the Patriots won eight events.
Graduate student
Jacquee Clabeaux won both the 50-yard breaststroke (29.79) and 100-yard breaststroke (1:04.70). Sophomore
Ali Tyler touched the wall first in both the 50-yard freestyle (23.27) and 50-yard butterfly (25.30).
The Patriots went one-two in the 50-yard backstroke with sophomore
Anka Whelan first (27.22) and classmate
Shannon Judge second (27.37). Whelan placed third in the 100-yard backstroke (57.06).
Madison Nalls claimed the top spot in the 500-yard freestyle (5:05.04) while sophomore
Sydney Branch placed fifth in the event (5:21.51).
In the 200-yard IM, Tyler took second (2:04.82) and Whelan was third (2:09.64).
In the 100-yard butterfly, junior
Abigail Murtaugh placed second (57.98) and freshman
Peyton Brehmer was third (58.21).
Sophomore
Emma DeJong placed second in the 100-yard freestyle (52.95) and finished third in the 200-yard freestyle (1:56.00).
In the 1000-yard freestyle, Branch placed fourth (10:57.51) and sophomore
Kylie Thompson was fifth (11:00.65).
The team of Tyler, Clabeaux, Judge and Brehmer won the 200-yard medley relay (1:44.52), while the group of Clabeuax, Judge, DeJong and Nalls took the top spot in the 400-yard freestyle relay (3:28.35).
On the men's side the Patriots won nine events.
Freshman
Tate Anderson won both the 200-yard freestyle (1:39.53) and 100-yard backstroke (50.97).
Sophomore
Alexander Franklin took the top spot in the 50-yard backstroke (23.30) with junior
Jackson Brookover third (24.25). Franklin also won the 100-yard butterfly (50.63) with freshman
Joshua Hochard third (51.65) and freshman
Sam Rivas fourth (52.06).
The Patriots went one-two in the 50-yard breaststroke with senior
Sammy Lucht first (26.00) and sophomore
Tyler Lentine second (26.53). Lentine won the 100-yard breaststroke (58.17).
Mason took three of the top four spots in the 50-yard butterfly with Lucht first (22.72), Franklin second (22.85) and freshman
Jett Lee fourth (23.38).
Sophomore
Zane Roberts claimed the top spot in the 50-yard freestyle (21.11), while Brookover finished third (21.38).
Freshman
Max Fermayer placed second in the 1000-yard freestyle (9:50.29), while senior
Jackson Knouse was fourth in the event (10:00.16).
The team of Franklin, Lucht, Hochard and Roberts won the 200-yard medley relay (1:31.45), while the combination of senior
Josh Fletcher, Lee, Lentine and Anderson took second in the event (1:33.82).
The Patriots conclude the season at the Atlantic 10 Championships Feb. 15-18 at the SPIRE Institute in Geneva, Ohio.
