Fairfax, Va.— The George Mason wrestling team earned a 21-12 decision against Edinboro Saturday night at McComb Fieldhouse.
Mason (9-3, 1-1) won seven of the 10 matches to win its first MAC dual. The Patriots have won two straight and four of the last five matches against the Fighting Scots in the all-time series.
The Patriots jumped out to 9-0 lead on the backs of decisions from
Markel Baker,
Josh Jones and
Anthony Glasl.
Edinboro's Ryan Burgos earned a fall against Nate Higley to get the Fighting Scots on the board, 9-6, but the Patriots responded with four straight decisions to secure the win.
After not wrestling since mid-December, grad student
Peter Pappas (157) earned his eighth straight win to improve to 14-1.
Sophomore
Logan Messer wins his 20th match of the season, a 3-1 win against Edinboro's Jared Mcgill.
Mason will continue on the road next weekend in Ohio to battle SIUE and Cleveland State in a tri-dual in Cleveland on Jan. 29.
