Fairfax, Va. - The George Mason women's tennis traveled to the University of Maryland this weekend to compete in the Maryland Bedford Cup, hosted by the Junior Tennis Champions Center (JTCC).
Grad student Taylor Garcia and Dana Edson each finished unbeaten in singles, 3-0 en route to winning the Maryland Flight and White Flight, respectively.
Mason entered nine student-athletes into the weekend tournament. Overall, the team won 13 of 24 singles matches played by the Patriots, and 7-6 in doubles action.
Nine programs competed in the Mid-Atlantic Championships of the Bedford Cup Tournament now in its seventh year. The Patriots played against players from host Maryland, Coppin State, Georgetown, George Washington, Howard, Morgan State, Richmond, and Towson.
"It was a solid weekend despite the weather," added Head Coach Steve Curtis. "Overall as a team we performed well against some very strong competition. The weekend was highlighted by Taylor and Dana winning their respective flights."
The format for singles play was six compass draws made up of 16 players in four flights (A,B,C,D). Doubles play had three compass draws made up of 16 doubles teams.
