FREDERICKSBURG, Va. – The George Mason University men's tennis team enjoyed its first taste of fall competition at the Mary Washington Invitational this weekend.
 
With matches Saturday and Sunday, Mason's group of eight student-athletes participated in both singles and doubles.
 
Freshman Alvaro Pedraza impressed in his debut for the Patriots, notching three singles victories to go along with a doubles win. His singles triumphs included a 6-2, 6-1 win over Jack Fanshawe of Washington College and a three-set victory over Mason Liu (Johns Hopkins), which included a gritty 13-11 win in a super tiebreaker.
 
Fellow freshman Monil Lotlikar also picked up two singles wins, including a straight sets win over Andrew Watson of Mary Washington (6-3, 6-3) and a 7-5, 6-3 victory over Danny Ardila of Johns Hopkins.
 
Seniors Rithik Sardana and Momin Khan paired up for two doubles wins in three matches on the weekend. That included an 8-4 win over the Yu duo from Johns Hopkins and an 8-5 triumph over the Hoegstedt/Jakobi duo from Washington College.
 
Elsewhere, senior Herman Jentoft earned two wins in singles for Mason. Both of those wins included clutch performances in super tiebreakers.
 
The Patriots return to action next weekend (Sept. 16-18) at the Joe Hunt Invitational in Annapolis.
