FAIRFAX, Va. – George Mason University women's lacrosse head coach
Kara Mupo has announced that two transfer student-athletes will join the Patriot roster beginning in fall 2022.
The transfers return home to Virginia after their freshman campaigns at the University of Pittsburgh and Campbell University. Attacker Kate Elam played for Pitt and local Fairfax and Robinson Secondary product Maddie Charland represented the Camels.
"We are thrilled to welcome Maddie and Kate to Mason Nation," said Mupo. "One of our goals as a program is to attract the top talent in Virginia. The addition of these two players continues our progress towards that goal. Additionally, both Maddie and Kate will bring a strong presence on the playing field, in the classroom, and in the community, paving the way for the future of our program."
Charland was an all-conference and all-scholar athlete performer in both lacrosse and field hockey at nearby Robinson. She was named honorable mention all-conference in lacrosse in 2021, leading the Rams to a district championship. She played club lacrosse for VA Metro.
Elam was a force for the Panthers, playing in all 19 games during Pitt's inaugural season in 2022. She ranked third on the team with 25 goals, including 10 free-position goals. The attacker recorded three hat-tricks on the season, including a five-goal performance against Siena (2/18/22).
The Pamplin, Va. native is a graduate of St. Anne's-Belfield School. She was a member of the Virginia National Team in 2019 and played for Storm Elite Club Lacrosse in 2017.
