FAIRFAX, Va. – George Mason University softball head coach
Justin Walker has announced that pitcher Aly Rayle will join the Patriots roster this upcoming spring season.
A native of Herndon, Virginia, Rayle spent the previous four years (2019-22) pitching for the University of Virginia.
As a freshman (2019), Rayle went 10-13 in the circle in her 24 appearances. The Cavalier's ace tossed five complete games and back the first Virginia pitcher since 2010 to sweep an ACC series.
In Rayle's sophomore campaign (2020), the ace made eight starts in her 14 appearances. Aly led the Cavaliers with a 2.91 ERA, the lowest individual mark for Virginia since 2013. While ranking top 100 nationally in four pitching categories, Rayle held opponents to a 0.188 batting average.
The junior (2021) led the team in ERA, 3.16, for the second consecutive year. In her undergraduate finale (2022) with the Cavaliers, Aly appeared in 22 games with 15 starts. During Rayle's time in the circle in 2022, the ace posted a 5-5 record with a 2.91 ERA.
During her four years in Charlottesville, Aly started in 55 of her 88 games played. The former Virginia pitcher finished her undergraduate career with a 3.62 ERA in 290.1 innings. Rayle gave up 271 hits, 82 walks, 166 runs, and struck out 259 in the circle over the last four years.
