FAIRFAX, Va. – Five members of the George Mason track and field program were selected to the Atlantic 10 Outdoor Track & Field All-Rookie Team.
 
Wesley Bond (10,000m), Josh Walker (steeplechase) and Arsalan Yaqubi (hammer throw) earned All-Rookie honors for the men while Amber Askelson (pole vault) and Abby Weening (heptathlon) were picked for the women. 

The All-Rookie teams comprise the top-rookie performer in each event from meets conducted from the start of the outdoor season through the Atlantic 10 Championships.

Wesley Bond | 10,000m
Bond posted the fastest time by an A-10 freshman this season in the 10,000-meter run. His PR of 30:05.61, set at the Colonial Relays (April 2), ranks 10th in program history. He placed fourth in the event at the 2022 A-10 Outdoor Championships. 

Josh Walker | 3,000m Steeplechase
Walker led all Atlantic 10 freshmen in the 3,000m steeplechase in 2022. He ran a personal-best time of 9:16.07 at the IC4A/ECAC Championships (May 13) – good for 10th in program annals. He notched ninth in the event at the A-10 Outdoor Championships. 
 
Arsalan Yaqubi | Hammer Throw
Yaqubi's mark of 43.47 meters in the hammer throw led all freshmen this season. He registered the mark at the Dalton Ebanks Invitational on April 9. His rookie campaign also featured a successful showing in the javelin where finished seventh at the A-10 Outdoor Championships. 
 
Amber Askelson | Pole Vault
Askelson's best mark of her freshman season came at the Colonial Relays (March 31) where she cleared 3.55 meters – tied for ninth in Mason outdoor history. She placed seventh in the event at the A-10 Outdoor Championships to score for the Patriots.  
 
Abby Weening | Heptathlon 
Weening, an A-10 Indoor All-Rookie selection, picks up all-rookie honors in the heptathlon. She posted a PR of 4,661 points at the Navy Spring Invite – good for 10th in program history. She finished fifth in the heptathlon at the A-10 Outdoor Championships.
