DAVIDSON, N.C. – The George Mason baseball team dropped its final game of the regular season, 12-4, to Davidson, with the game called in the eighth inning due to weather at Wilson Field in Davidson, N.C.
Mason (22-31, 13-11 A10) took the lead over Davidson (42-11, 20-4 A-10) in the first inning against Wildcats freshman starter Ryan Feczko.
Junior first baseman
South Trimble led off the game with his first home run of the season to put the Patriots in front, 1-0. It was the Patriots 32nd home run of the season.
The Wildcats took the lead for good in the bottom of the second against Mason graduate student starter
Danny Hosley.
Senior third baseman John Hosmer drove in two runs with a double and sophomore second baseman Jake Wilhoit plated a run with a single to give Davidson the lead, 3-1.
In the home half of the fourth, the Wildcats sent eight batters to the plate and scored four runs on two hits and three walks against Mason senior reliever
Hugh O'Hara. Hosmer hit a two-run home run and senior right fielder Trevor Candelaria had a two-run double to increase the lead to 7-1.
Candelaria hit his third home run of the series in the bottom of the sixth, a three-run blast off Mason freshman reliever
Britt Yount to make the score 10-1.

Tyler Cotten knocked in a run with a single in the top of the seventh to make it a 10-2 game.
The Wildcats added two runs in the bottom of the seventh against Mason freshman reliever
Jalen Grant. With a pair of runners aboard, Wilhoit cleared the bases with a triple to left field to extend the lead to 12-2.
In the top of the eighth, sophomore
Jordan Smith and junior
Craig Miles, Jr. each walked and with two outs, Mason freshman right fielder
Alex Knapp drove in two runs with a single for the final runs of the day.
The game was called with one out in the eighth inning due to weather after a one hour delay.
For the Patriots, Hosley (3-4) allowed three runs on three hits in 3.0 innings and took the loss. O'Hara gave up four runs on one hit and retired two batters. Yount surrendered three runs on three hits in 1.1 innings. Senior
Matthew Henson retired three batters in the sixth. Grant allowed two runs on two hits and retired two batters in the seventh.
For the Wildcats, Feczko (10-0) allowed one run on three hits in 5.2 innings and earned the win.
Knapp went 1-for-2 with a walk and two RBI, while Trimble was 1-for-1 with a home run and was hit by a pitch.
The Patriots are back on the diamond in the 2022 Atlantic 10 Championship at Wilson Field in Davidson, N.C.
