Fairfax, Va. – George Mason women's lacrosse assistant coach Lyndsey Munoz was named to the 2022 Spanish Women's National Team that will compete at the 2022 World Championship in Maryland this summer.

Munoz was a standout goaltender at Stanford from 2011-14. She ranks fourth all-time in saves (400) and is seventh in goals-against average (10.58). She led the Cardinal to three NCAA appearances in her four seasons, including the program's first-ever tournament win over Notre Dame in 2013.

She has continued to foster an active playing career throughout her post-collegiate life for this special opportunity to play the game she loves for Spain.

"I feel honored to represent Spain at the World Cup," said Munoz, who has dual citizenship with Spain and the United States. "I've watched former teammates play lacrosse in the World Cup and my brother Matthew at the 2008 European Championship. I'm looking forward to this amazing experience, contributing further to growing the game and doing something positive for the sport."

Since graduating from Stanford in 2014, Munoz has worked to grow lacrosse across the country through various positions and owner of her own company, LM Training. She spent three years in California at the Academy of Lacrosse. She was a co-head coach for the LA Women's Developmental National Team and head coach for Westlake H.S.

As program director for the Washington Inner City Lacrosse Foundation for two years Munoz nearly doubled enrollment, bringing the sport to 1,500 youth in Washington, DC, and starting the city's first elementary school lacrosse league.

The 2022 Spanish National Team will train just outside Madrid, Spain June 4-5 prior to a week-long training camp in Maryland as a lead-in to the 2022 Women's World Cup in Towson, Maryland, June 29-July 9.

Spain will open the World Cup in pool play against Hong Kong on June 30 at 3:00 p.m. at Towson University in Maryland. The team will play against Ireland, New Zealand, and Austria in pool play to qualify for bracket play beginning on July 5.

The opening ceremony is on June 29 and the first match will be played between the United States and Canada. A record 30 nations are expected to compete at this summer's world championship.
