Race Schedule
FAIRFAX, Va. – The George Mason University rowing team will travel to New Jersey this weekend to compete in the Knecht Cup on Friday and Saturday.
The competition will give Mason a valuable opportunity to race at the site of the Atlantic 10 Championship later this spring.
The Patriots will begin racing with the Varsity 4+ at 8:02 a.m. Saturday. Mason will compete in a heat alongside Drexel, Delaware, Fordham and Colgate.
Mason also will race a Novice 4+ boat at 9:22 a.m. against crews Haverford, Iona, Pittsburgh and Maryland.
The Patriots' Varsity 8+ boat hits the water at 10:34 a.m. Mason's heat includes Georgetown, Radcliffe, Barry, Thomas Jefferson and La Salle. The boat's semifinal will begin at either 3:18, 3:26 or 3:34 p.m. on Saturday, depending on seeding.
Mason's Second Varsity 8+ puts together its heat at 12:30 p.m. against Drexel, Delaware, Fordham, Stetson and Villanova.
The team's Novice 8+ wraps up initial competition with a heat at 1:02 p.m. against Pittsburgh, Rhode Island, West Virginia and Delaware.
On Sunday, all of Mason's boats will compete in a series of finals, beginning with the Novice 4+ at either 8:42 or 8:50 a.m.
At last weekend's Murphy Cup in Philadelphia, Mason's Novice 4+ reached the grand final and will look to carry that momentum into the Knecht Cup.
The Varsity 8+ had a tough assignment in a fast heat, but put together a strong time of 6:53.76 in its race, just 12 seconds out of third place.
After this weekend's racing, Mason returns home to host the George Cup on April 17.
