FAIRFAX, Va. - The George Mason softball team will host Massachusetts on Apr. 9-10 for a weekend conference series.
A LOOK AT THE PATRIOTS
Mason comes off their weekend series with Dayton with a 1-2 record.
In game one, senior
EJ Bankson went 1-for-2 at the plate in an offensive jam. Bankson tallied the Patriots lone hit of the game in the 8-0 loss.
In game two, the Patriots put on a show offensively. Junior
Haley Taormina went 3-for-3 while senior
Taylor Dadig went 3-for-4 and sophomore
Zoe Vozick went 2-for-3 at the plate. Taormina, Vozick, and redshirt sophomore
Nicole Bechtel each hit home runs in the game to help defeat the Flyers 15-7.
In the final game of the series, the Patriots found themselves in another offensive jam. Mason faced a no hitter pitched by Dayton in the 10-0 loss.
Sophomore
Carly Cooper earned the start and the loss in the first game for the Patriots before closing our game three of the weekend as a relief pitcher. Freshman
Jordan Anderson relieved Cooper in the first game. Freshman
Alexandra Anderson earned the start in the second and third games of the weekend. Anderson was relieved in both games by graduate student
Cheyenne Van Pelt.
SCOUTING THE OPPONENT
Massachusetts, 2022 record: 10-21, 3-5 Atlantic 10
Massachusetts ended their 2021 season with an overall record of 16-17, 12-12 in the conference. The Minutewomen earned the series win (3-1) over the Rams of Rhode Island to close out the season.
Massachusetts is led by sophomore Payge Suggs. Suggs currently leads the team in batting average, recording a 0.333 mark so far this season. The outfielder has tallied 22 hits, one double, one triple, and four RBI's in 66 at-bats.
From the bullpen, the Minutewomen are led by junior Jessie DiPasquale, who has appeared in 16 games thus far in the 2022 season, tallying a record of 4-9. DiPasquale has tallied an ERA of 4.82 after 85.2 innings pitched, giving up 102 hits, 71 runs, 34 walks, 20 doubles, two triples, and 22 home runs.
Massachusetts holds the advantage over Mason, leading the all-time series 1-6, with the last meeting between the two teams occurring in the 2019 season where the Patriots earned their first win over the Minutewomen in a doubleheader split.
