Amherst, Mass -- The George Mason women's lacrosse team was handed a 19-7 loss by the #18 Massachusetts Minutewomen today at Garber Field.
UMass, the defending Atlantic 10 regular season champs and preseason favorite, led for the entirety of the game. George Mason (2-9, 1-3) didn't have an answer for the Minutewomen, who opened the match with 13 consecutive goals, 11 in the first period.
Shannon Tuozzo scored the Patriots first goal mid-way through the second period on a free position shot. The junior added two draw controls and a ground ball for the Patriots.

Lauren Distad each had two goals for Mason, both connecting on their only two shots. Mantzouratos added four draw controls.

Olivia O'Brien continued her dominance in the circle with seven total today and 73 on the season. The grad student assisted on a goal by
Melanie Hutchinson with 10:20 remaining in the game.
Massachusetts peppered the Mason goalies with 37 shots, to only 12 shot taken by Mason. The Patriots won the draw control battle, 18-12.
Mason will return home to host a pair of A-10 matches. The Patriots play St. Joseph's on Friday at 1 p.m. and George Washington at Noon on Sunday at George Mason Stadium.
