Game Recap: Softball |
DAYTON, Ohio - The George Mason softball team (14-16, 4-5 A-10) dropped their final game of the series with Dayton (11-17, 6-5 A-10) 10-0 in five innings.

Dayton struck first in the bottom of the first inning after striking out the first three Mason batters. The Flyers put runners on base off a single, two stolen bases, and a walk before scoring on an RBI groundout.

After another three up, three down top of the inning for the Patriots, Dayton had a hot hitting inning in the bottom of the second, taking the 6-0 advantage. The Flyers put runs on the board off three wild pitches and a two run home run out to left field.

In the top of the third inning, sophomore Zoe Vozick reached base after being walked, looking to start an offensive rally for Mason. On the next play, Vozick fell victim to being called out on the double play that ended the inning.

The Flyers scored again in the bottom of the third inning on an RBI groundout and a single out to center field to now lead the game 8-0.

Senior EJ Bankson was walked by the pitcher to start the fourth inning of play for the Patriots. After two outs already, Bankson attempted to steal second to place a runner in scoring position but was caught stealing on the play.

The Flyers struck again in the bottom of the fourth inning, scoring two runs off a two run home run out to center field to take the 10-0 advantage to seal their fate in the game.

Freshman Alexandra Anderson earned the start and the loss in the game. Anderson pitched 1.1 innings before she was relieved by graduate student Cheyenne Van Pelt. Van Pelt threw for 2.0 innings before being relieved by sophomore Carly Cooper who closed out the game.
