FAIRFAX, Va. - The George Mason softball team will host conference foe Rhode Island (20-18, 8-6 A-10) on Apr. 30-May 1 for a weekend series. The Patriots will honor their five seniors
Saige Cisler,
EJ Bankson,
Taylor Dadig,
Cheyenne Van Pelt, and
Amber Verstynen along with graduate intern Primo Chang before the 3 p.m. game on Saturday.
A LOOK AT THE PATRIOTS
Mason is coming off a midweek doubleheader with the University of Maryland Eastern Shore where the Patriots split the two games with the Hawks.
In game one of the day, junior
Rachel Warrens went a perfect 2-for-2 at the plate and scored two runs in the 8-7 win. Junior
Haley Taormina went 2-for-4 at the plate with one run scored and one RBI. Both senior
Taylor Dadig and sophomore
Sydney Bales went 2-for-3 in the game. Dadig scored two runs in the six innings for the Patriots. Bales scored one run on an in the park grand slam which complied four RBI's.
Bales, Dadig, and Warrens continued to lead the team on the offensive end in the second game of the day. Sophomore
Marlaina Bozek helped to lead Mason during the game going 3-for-4 at the plate and scoring one of the Patriots three runs in the 5-3 loss.
Freshman
Alexandra Anderson earned the start and the win in the first game of the day. Anderson pitched all seven innings to record her first complete game of the season. Freshman
Madi Williams earned the start in the first game of the day before she was relieved by freshman
Jordan Anderson. Anderson pitched four innings before she was relieved by sophomore
Carly Cooper who closed out the game.
SCOUTING THE OPPONENT
Rhode Island, 2022 record: 11-30, 4-14 Atlantic 10
Rhode Island ended their 2021 season with an overall record of 5-22, 2-12 in the conference. The Rams finished their season by stealing a win from UMass in their three-game series.
Rhode Island is led by freshman Victoria Viaclovsky. Viaclovsky currently leads the team in batting average, recording a 0.308 mark so far this season. The infielder has tallied 28 hits, three doubles, one home run and 11 RBI's in 91 at-bats.
From the bullpen, the Rams are led by graduate student Liz Lynchard, who has appeared in 31 games thus far in the 2022 season, tallying a record of 8-18. Lynchard has tallied an ERA of 4.83 after 136.1 innings pitched, giving up 181 hits, 109 runs, 57 walks, 35 doubles, six triples, and nine home runs.
Mason holds the advantage over Rhode Island, leading the all-time series 8-6, with the last meeting between the two teams occurring in the 2019 season.
