Match Recap: Women's Tennis |
ORLANDO, Fla. – The George Mason University women's tennis team completed its season at the 2022 Atlantic 10 Tennis Championships today with a 4-1 setback to Saint Louis at the USTA National Campus in Orlando, Fla.

Saint Louis won three singles matches and the doubles point to defeat Mason and move on to play #3 Fordham tomorrow.

The doubles point was earned by Saint Louis in tightly-contested matches. After the Billikens took the top doubles match, Mason's No 3 duo of Savanna Crowell and Brianna Gibbs defeated the Billikens team of Lucija Faj and Norhan Hesham, 7-5. All eyes went to court #2 for the determining match for the point. The Billikens prevailed against Mason's Paige La and Hannah Yang, 7-5.

Crowell earned her 34th win of the season after taking the No. 3 doubles match.

Paige La earned Mason's singles point with a victory at No. 1 singles, her 17th singles win (17-15) this season. The junior easily won the first set, 6-2, but Saint Louis' Norhan Hesham battled hard in the second before La prevailed 6-4.

The Billikens Lucija Faj earned the first singles point in the No. 4 match, 6-3, 6-2 against the Patriots Ashley Fitz-Patrick. After the two battled in the first five games in the second set, Faj ran off four straight games to take the match.

St. Louis' Elizabeth Mintusova earned a 6-3, 6-0, decision in the No. 2 singles match against Grace Hashiguchi

Mariona Perez defeated Hannah Yang at No. 3 singles, 6-3, 6-2, to clinch the match point for the Billikens.

Two close matches went unfinished after the fourth Saint Louis point was earned.

The Patriots Savanna Crowell was leading Mya Spencer, 7-6, 3-0. Jackie Nannery went toe-to-toe with SLU's Jessica Stefan at the No. 5 position, but the match was unfinished as Stefan held a 6-4, 5-4 edge.

Mason finished the season with a 13-8 record, the program's best since 2018-19.
