FAIRFAX, Va. - The George Mason softball team will host conference for Fordham (20-18, 8-6 A-10) on Apr. 23-24 for a weekend series.
A LOOK AT THE PATRIOTS
Mason is coming off a midweek doubleheader with Longwood where the Patriots dropped both games despite late rallies.
In game one of the day, three Patriots went 1-for-2 at the plate in the 11-2 loss. These three players were senior
EJ Bankson, junior
Rachel Warrens, and sophomore
Sydney Bales. Warrens scored one of the runs and senior
Taylor Dadig score the other. Bales had one RBI in the game.
Mason had a better offensive showing in game two of the day. Dadig led the way going 3-for-4 at the plate. Freshman
Hayley Shifflett, who usually plays in the outfield, had to shift and play infield for the first time this season. Shifflett went 2-for-4 at the plate and scored one of the runs for the Patriots. Warrens had two RBI's in the game and sophomore
Marlaina Bozek had one.
Sophomore
Carly Cooper earned the start and the loss in the first game. Cooper was relieved by freshman
Alexandra Anderson in the fourth inning, but Cooper was put back in and pitched her sixth complete game of the season. Freshman
Jordan Anderson earned the start and the loss in the second game, pitching for four of the seven innings. Freshman
Madi Williams relieved Anderson and threw the remaining three innings. only allowed two hits along with five strikeouts.
SCOUTING THE OPPONENT
Fordham, 2022 record: 20-18, 8-6 Atlantic 10
Fordham ended their 2021 season with an overall record of 37-10, 17-3 in the conference. The Rams, who earned their spot in the Atlantic 10 Championship tournament, ended their season with losses to Dayton and George Washington in the second round.
Fordham is led by freshman Rachel Hubertus. Hubertus currently leads the team in batting average, recording a 0.311 mark so far this season. The infielder has tallied 38 hits, three doubles, two home runs and six RBI's in 122 at-bats.
From the bullpen, the Rams are led by graduate student Makenzie McGrath, who has appeared in 19 games thus far in the 2022 season, tallying a record of 19-11. McGrath has tallied an ERA of 2.52 after 77.2 innings pitched, giving up 71 hits, 34 runs, 39 walks, 12 doubles, and six home runs.
Fordham holds the advantage over Mason, leading the all-time series 2-12, with the last meeting between the two teams occurring in the 2019 season.
