FAIRFAX, Va. – A trio of George Mason track and field student-athletes were named to the Atlantic 10 Indoor All-Rookie Team, the league announced on Wednesday.
The All-Rookie teams comprise the top-rookie performer in each event from meets conducted from the start of the indoor season through the Atlantic 10 Championships.
Jalen Johnson (60m),
Aaron Lomax (Shot Put) and
Abby Weening (Long Jump and Pentathlon) earned All-Rookie accolades for the Patriots.
Johnson, a native of Chesapeake, Va., earned All-Rookie honors for his performance in the 60-meter dash. He ran 6.87 in the event at the A-10 Indoor Track & Field Championships (Feb. 26-27) – the fastest time by a freshman. The time is tied for ninth in indoor program history.
Johnson qualified for the 60m dash finals at the A-10 championship meet where he finished eighth overall. He added a first-place finish in the 60m dash at the Wesley Brown Invitational on Jan. 22.
Lomax, from Kensington, Md., was selected All-Rookie in the shot put. He finished 11th in the event at the A-10 Indoor Championships with a mark of 13.81 meters.
He posted a season-best toss of 14.94 meters in the shot put at the VMI Team Challenge (Jan. 15), finishing second in the event.
Weening, from Barrie, Canada, garnered All-Rookie honors in the long jump and pentathlon. Her marks of 5.56 meters in the long jump and 3,391 points in the pentathlon both led all freshmen in the Atlantic 10.
Weening finished fourth in the pentathlon at the A-10 Indoor Championships. Her rookie indoor campaign saw four top-five finishes.
