Women's Lacrosse Travels for Match at Duquesne

FAIRFAX, Va. – The George Mason women's lacrosse will travel to Pittsburgh for an Atlantic 10 Conference match with Duquesne on Thursday afternoon. The Match can be viewed on ESPN+.

The Series with Duquesne 
Mason and Duquesne have met only in Atlantic 10 action, with the series even at 3-3. After losing the first meeting was on Apr. 4, 2014, 21-13, the Patriots have won the previous three meetings. In the last meeting on April 7, 2019, Mason edged the Dukes, 14-13.

Last Time Out
With a solid defensive effort the women's lacrosse team defeated George Washington, 14-10. Shannon Tuozzo scored a season-high five goals and added two assists as the Patriots notched its second conference win. The Patriots Goalkeeper Meghan Deehan recorded an impressive day in the net, saving 12 Colonial shots for a .545 save percentage. Junior Chloe Reed recorded a season-high three goals, her first hat trick of the season. Olivia O'Brien added two goals to her team-leading 28 goals on the season.

  • Olivia O'Brien leads the Atlantic 10 in draw controls (83) and draw control average (6.38) and ranks 24th nationally. The grad student earned 18 draw controls at Howard, breaking the Patriots record of 13 set by Hannah Warpinski at Duquesne, April 7, 2017. The mark is among the top 25 in NCAA history. 
  • Grad student Ioanna Mantzouratos is third on Mason with 31 points (20/11), leads the Patriots with 13 caused turnovers, and is second on the team with 35 draw controls.
  • Shannon Tuozzo leads Mason with 36 points (26/10) and ground balls with 19. She scored a season-high five goals against GW.
  • Goalkeeper Meghan Deehan recorded 20 saves this past weekend, including 12 saves in the win against GW. 
Scouting Duquesne 
Duquesne earned its first conference win on Sunday against La Salle, with an 18-9 win at home. Midfielder Alana Piano and attacker Delaney Rodriguez-Shaw were named the Atlantic 10 Defensive Player and Rookie of the Week on Monday for their performance. Piano ranks fourth in Division I with 2.62 caused turnovers per game and seventh with 3.38 ground balls per game. Both numbers are also tops in the A-10 this season. Rodriguez-Shaw collected eight total goals with one assist for the weekend. She also corralled two ground balls and caused one turnover as well. The Longmeadow, Mass. native leads the team with 30 goals, which is good for eighth in the Atlantic 10.
