Fairfax, Va. -- The George Mason women's lacrosse team (2-8, 1-2) propelled out to an early lead and locked down defensively during a 15-7 victory over visiting St. Bonaventure on Friday afternoon at George Mason Stadium.
After the Bonnies scored the opening goal, the Patriots raced out to a 7-1 lead after the first period. St. Bonaventure closed the gap to five goals, 10-5 at the half, but the Patriots locked down defensively in the second half to earn the conference win. St. Bonaventure drops to 1-8 overall, 0-3 in the A-10.
Grad student
Olivia O'Brien put together an exceptional offensive display in the first period, earning a hat-trick with 2:06 remaining in the stanza. She would tie her season-high in goals (4) with a goal early in the third period. She dominated the draw on the day while tallying six of the Patriots 16 draw controls.
Not to be outdone,
Shannon Tuozzo also notched a season-high tying four goals for the Patriots, finding the back of the net on four of her season-high seven shots.
Mason's points-leader
Ioanna Mantzouratos added tallied four today with two goals and two assists. She has 29 points this season (18-11). The grad student caused a team-best three turnovers.
Starting goalkeeper
Meghan Deehan had 10 save to earn the win.
Mason put together a highly-efficient performance, hitting on 15-of-34 shots while St. Bonaventure connected on 7-of-24 attempts.
