Mason Heads to Dayton for a Weekend Conference Series

FAIRFAX, Va. - The George Mason softball team will travel to Dayton this weekend for a conference series on the road.
 
A LOOK AT THE PATRIOTS

Mason comes off their midweek match-up with James Madison, dropping both games 9-0.
 
In game one, junior Rachel Warrens went 1-for-2 and senior Taylor Dadig went 1-for-3 at the plate in an offensive jam. Warrens and Dadig tallied the Patriots two hits of the game. Dadig was able to garner Mason's only stolen base of the game.

In game two, the Patriots struggled again offensively. Both Warrens and sophomore Marlaina Bozek went 1-for-2 at the plate to tally the two Patriots hits. Freshman Jordan Anderson earned the only stole base for the Patriots in game two. All nine runs for James Madison were all scored off of home runs.

Freshman Alexandra Anderson earned the start and the loss in the first game. Anderson pitched 5 innings before being relieved by freshman Jordan Anderson to close out the game. Graduate student Cheyenne Van Pelt earned the start and the loss in the second game. Van Pelt pitched the first inning before she was relieved by sophomore Carly Cooper.
 

SCOUTING THE OPPONENT

Dayton, 2022 record: 9-16, 4-4 Atlantic 10

Dayton ended their 2021 season with an overall record of 21-26, 14-8 in the conference. En route to a conference championship title, the Flyers dropped their final two games of the tournament, both to conference champions George Washington in the championship game.

Dayton is led by junior Emily Daniel. Daniel currently leads the team in batting average, recording a 0.407 mark so far this season. The outfielder has tallied 22 hits, one double, and one RBI's in 54 at-bats.
 
From the bullpen, the Flyers are led by senior Kelsey Gumm, who has appeared in 15 games thus far in the 2022 season, tallying a record of 4-5. Gumm has tallied an ERA of 2.45 after 60 innings pitched, giving up 48 hits, 29 runs, 23 walks, six doubles, and seven home runs.
 
Dayton holds the advantage over Mason, leading the all-time series 9-14, with the last meeting between the two teams occurring in the 2021 season where Dayton swept the three game series with the Patriots in Ohio 6-4, 1-0, and 2-1.
