WILLIAMSBURG, Va. – The George Mason track and field program collected three first-place finishes on the first day of the Colonial Relays Friday at Zable Stadium in Williamsburg, Va.
Junior Kai Muniz won the men's 5000m run with a PR of 14:51.92 while junior James Seal claimed first in the men's 800m with a time of 1:53.89.
Senior Jessica McRae PR'ed once again in the hammer throw, posting a toss of 58.91 meters to finish first in the event.
The field events were separated by invitational and non-invitational sections. Non-invitational sections featured two flights, no final rounds. Invitational sections featured one flight with the top-nine moving on to the finals.
In the women's javelin, Laura DeMarzi tabbed second (32.29m), followed by Marisa Santamauro in fourth (29.91m), Lindsey Schmidt in sixth (27.74m) and Abby Weening in ninth (24.30m). DeMarzi (4.98m) and Schmidt (4.97m) were also 29th and 31st, respectively, in the long jump.
Schmidt added a fifth-place finish in the 100m hurdles (14.92), followed by Weening in eighth (15.12).
Graduate student Jaylen Simmons posted a third-place finish in the shot put invitational (16.70m) while graduate student Sid Yap took eighth in the hammer throw invitational (50.20m).
Sophomore Bobby Kestyn notched third in the shot put (13.53m) and fifth in the hammer throw (46.08m).
Competing in the pole vault invitational was Autumn White and Hannah Robertson. White tabbed seventh (3.70m) while Robertson took ninth (3.55m). Freshman Amber Askelson placed fourth with a height of 3.55 meters in the non-invitational pole vault event. The mark is tied for ninth in outdoor program history.
Freshman Ellis Nei was 10th in the 110m hurdles (16.44) and 15th in the long jump (6.29m).
Elsewhere on the track, senior Maggie Larkin placed fourth in the 5000m run with a PR of 18:03.59. Sophomore Aiden Dorf notched third in the 1500m unseeded event with a time of 3:54.92.
Freshman Charlie Blundell tabbed 21st in his steeplechase debut, finishing in a time of 9:50.49.
Freshman Noelle Foss finished 25th in the 100m dash (12.56) while freshman Jalen Johnson placed 27th on the men's side (11.09).
In the 400m hurdles, sophomore Michka-Mae Hyde took 18th for the women (1:06.14) and sophomore Timothy Allen finished 36th for the men (59.26). Senior Abigail Williams added a 28th-place finish in the 400m dash (59.39).
Sophomore Jarett Flaker placed 19th in the 200m dash (22.22) while freshman Khia Holloway finished 34th for the women (26.32). Junior Noelle Saine was 19th in the women's 1500m (4:49.20).
In the evening distance events, junior Audrey Corbet notched 10th in the 10,000m with a time of 37:27.01 – good for ninth in program history.
Freshman Wesley Bond led the Mason men in the 10,000-meter run, posting a fifth-place time of 30:05.61. The time ranks 10th in outdoor program annals.
Mason wraps up the Colonial Relays on Saturday at Zable Stadium in Williamsburg, Va.
