Fairfax, Va. -- The George Mason women's lacrosse team fell to Mount St. Mary's, 14-4, in an afternoon match at George Mason Stadium.
Mason could not overcome a 13-0 run by the Mountaineers which effectively put the game out of reach. Mason drops to 1-5. The Mount improved to 5-2 overall.
A strong defensive effort by both teams led to the Mountaineers, 2-1 edge after the first period. Mason struck first with a goal by
Olivia O'Brien, assisted by Mantzouratos. The Mountaineers exploded in the second period outshooting the Patriots, 15-1, scoring five goals, and taking a 7-1 lead into the break. Mason goalkeeper
Meghan Deehan saved four in the stanza, 11 overall. The third quarter was efficient for The Mount, scoring on six of its seven shots. George Mason had five shots of their own but could only get one past goalkeeper Madison Bradley, who improved to 5-2.

Ioanna Mantzouratos scored a goal and had an assist to lead Mason. Teammates
Lauren Distad,
Morgan Gunn, and
Olivia O'Brien each recorded a goal. Erin Anderson had a game-high six points (2/4), while Jordan Glover and Alayna Pagnotta each scored four goals for the visiting Mountaineers.
Draw controls were in favor of Mount St. Mary's, 13-7. The Mount outshot Mason, 35-14, including 25-9 shots on goal.
The Patriots are back in action next Wednesday, March 16. Mason will host Georgetown at 6 p.m.
