FAIRFAX, Va. - The George Mason softball team will play host to Coppin State on Mar. 9 inside George Mason Softball Complex. First pitch is scheduled for 2 p.m.
A LOOK AT THE PATRIOTS
Mason comes off their home opening weekend with an overall record of 6-6, good for first place in the Atlantic 10 conference.
On Saturday, sophomore
Marlaina Bozek and junior
Maddy Myers led the offensive momentum for the Patriots for the first game of the day, both tallying Mason's first runs off RBI singles. Then, in the second game, Bozek hit a walk off single, bringing in two runs, to earn the Patriots their second win of the day.
On Sunday, the Patriots electrified the softball complex in the first inning of the first game when senior
EJ Bankson hit a triple and redshirt sophomore
Nicole Bechtel followed it up with a double. Bankson went a perfect 3-for-3 at the plate during the first game.
SCOUTING THE OPPONENT
Coppin State, 2022 record: 0-10, 0-0 Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference
Coppin State end their 2021 season with an overall record of 6-25, 6-13 in the conference. The Eagles split their last series of the season to MEAC foe Morgan State.
Coppin State is led by sophomore Shawnee Ronyak. Ronyak currently leads the team in batting percentage, recording a 0.263 mark so far this season. From the bullpen, the Eagles are led by senior Vanessa Carrizosa, who has appeared in six games thus far in the 2022 season. Carrizosa has tallied an ERA of 6.21 after 32.2 innings pitched.
Mason holds the advantage over Coppin State, leading the all-time series 4-0, with the last meeting between the two teams occurring in 2019.
