Fairfax, Va. -- The George Mason women's tennis team defeated visiting Howard University, 5-2, at the Mason Tennis Complex today.
"This was a great come from behind win," said Head Coach Steve Curtis. "I was very proud of the fight and tenacity our team showed today."
Howard earned the doubles point after wins at the top two doubles positions to get on the board first.
Mason and Howard split the next two matches before the Patriots won the final four matches for the win.
Two of the matches needed a tie-breaker set. At the top singles position,
Paige La was edged by the Bison's Jordan Grayson in the first set, 7-6. La won the second, 6-3, before outlasting Grayson in the third, 7-5. At No. 6 singles, Savannah Crowell defeated Howard's Hana El Sharif, 10-8 in the tie-breker.
Grad student
Grace Hashiguchi won her match at No. 2 singles, 6-2, 6-4.
Ashley Fitz-Patrick almost blanked her opponent, 6-0, 6-1 at number four singles and
Jackie Nannery won at No. 5, 6-3, 6-1.
The Patriots will have a break until they head to Hilton Head for the PTR Springfest, March 15-17.
