FAIRFAX, Va. - The George Mason softball team will play host to Lafayette on Mar. 5-6 inside George Mason Softball Complex. First pitch on both days are scheduled for 12 p.m.
 
A LOOK AT THE PATRIOTS
Mason comes off their trip down to Greenville with an overall record of 3-5, good for third place in the Atlantic 10 conference.
 
On Saturday, senior first baseman EJ Bankson went a perfect 4-for-4 at the plate in the win against Iona. Not far behind, junior second baseman Marlaina Bozek went 3-for-4 at the plate while tallying two RBI's. Sophomore pitcher Carly Cooper recorded three hits, three walks, and three strikeouts in the win.

On Sunday, the Patriots were able to garner offensive momentum in both games of the day due to the efforts from freshman Hayley Shifflett. In game one, the left fielder hit a single to the shortstop. In the second game, Shifflett hit her first career home run in the Green & Gold, bringing in three runs.

SCOUTING THE OPPONENT

Lafayette, 2022 record: 3-1, 0-0 Patriot League
Lafayette end their 2021 season with an overall record of 1-21, 1-17 in the conference. Unfortunate for the Leopards, most of their 2021 games were either postponed or canceled.

Lafayette is led by junior Erica Brasher. Brasher currently leads the team in batting percentage, recording a 0.400 mark so far this season. From the bullpen, the Leopards are led by senior Kinzi Van Wyk, who has appeared in three games thus far in the 2022 season. Van Wyk has tallied an ERA of 0.00 after 12 innings pitched.
 
Basher, Van Wyk and the Leopards were picked to finish seventh in the Patriot League in the Preseason Poll. Mason holds the advantage over Lafayette, leading the all-time series 4-0, with the last meeting between the two teams occurring in 2020.
