Fairfax, Va. -- The George Mason women's tennis team defeated Mount St. Mary's, 6-1, today at the George Mason Tennis Complex.
Mason got back in the win column improving to 9-4 this season. The Mount drops to 3-9.
The Patriots got on the board first after sweeping the three doubles matches. Two of the three doubles matches needed the tiebreaker set. After the No. 2 Mason team of
Paige La and
Hannah Yang won their match, 6-3, all the attention was on the other two doubles matches. Mason's
Grace Hashiguchi and
Jackie Nannery battled back and fourth with The Mount's top doubles team, prevailing in the tie-breaker set, 8-6. The Patriots No. 3 team of
Savanna Crowell and
Emily Wirt won 7-4 in the tiebreker set.
Mason won five of the six singles matches in straight sets.
Savanna Crowell improved to 14-9 in singles this season with a 6-4, 6-3 win against the Mountaineers Ryan McCarthy at No. 5 singles.
Paige La won at No. 1 singles, 6-2, 1-0 ret. Grad student
Grace Hashiguchi edged Shirley Liang, 7-5, 6-3 at No. 2 singles.
Hannah Yang defeated The Mount's Riya Mathur, 6-1, 6-1 at No. 4 singles.
Lauren Splett won easily at No. 6 singles, 6-0, 6-1.
The Patriots remain at home to host Atlantic 10 opponent Davidson on Sunday, April 3 at 10 a.m.
