Box Score 2 HARRISONBURG, Va. - The George Mason softball team (13-14, 3-3 A-10) dropped both games of the doubleheader against James Madison (14-13).
The Dukes won both games 9-0.
Game 1: Mason (13-13) vs. James Madison (13-13)
In the first game of the day, James Madison came out strong, scoring three runs in the first inning. The Dukes scored off an RBI double, followed by an RBI single.
Junior
Rachel Warrens got a runner on base for the Patriots off a single to the shortstop in the bottom of the first. Mason was unable to capitalize on this opportunity.
James Madison scored another in the bottom of the second inning off a passed ball by the catcher. The run was unearned.
Senior
Taylor Dadig tried to rally some offensive momentum off a single down the left field line followed by a stolen base in the top of the fourth inning, but the Patriots were unsuccessful.
James Madison added a fifth run to their column in the bottom of the fifth inning, scoring off an RBI double up the middle.
The Dukes struck again in the bottom of the sixth inning, scoring four runs to end the game.
Freshman
Alexandra Anderson earned the start and the loss in the first game. Anderson pitched 5 innings before being relieved by freshman
Jordan Anderson to close out the game.
Game 2: Mason (13-14) vs. James Madison (14-13)
In the second contest, James Madison came out strong after their 9-0 win in six innings to take another 9-0 win in just five innings.
Warrens led off the game with a single to the left side to put herself on base. Dadig then reached base on a fielders choice before being called out on a double play.
The lead off batter for James Madison hit a home run out to right field to start the offensive momentum for the Dukes. James Madison closed out the first inning with a three RBI home run out to left field to give the Dukes the 4-0 advantage.
James Madison then scored three more in the bottom of the second inning off yet another three RBI home run, this time out to center field.
Mason tried to garner momentum on the offensive end in the top of the fourth inning when sophomore
Marlaina Bozek hit a single down the left field line. Bozek, able to advance to both second and then third, was stranded on base.
James Madison then sealed their fate in the bottom of the fourth inning when the Dukes hit a two run home run to left center.
Graduate student
Cheyenne Van Pelt earned the start and the loss in the second game. Van Pelt pitched the first inning before she was relieved by sophomore
Carly Cooper.
UP NEXT
The Patriots will travel to Dayton for a three-game conference series Apr. 1-2 with first pitch slated for 12 p.m. on each day.
