Fairfax, Va. – The George Mason golf team battled the wind and cold to finish fourth at the Golden Horseshoe Intercollegiate, held in Williamsburg, Va., Monday and Tuesday.
The Patriots edged Villanova to finish fourth behind winning team Towson, runner-up Georgetown and Old Dominion. Villanova's Peter Weaver earned medalist honors with a three-round two-over-par 214 (67-75-72).
Will Halamandaris led the Patriots for the second-straight tournament placing third individually at the par 71, 6,817-yard Gold Course at Golden Horseshoe. The grad student finished the 54-hole tournament six-over-par (74-72-73=219). It marked his third top-3, and seventh top 15 finish this season.
With an eagle on the par 5, 485-yard sixth hole in the opening round yesterday, Halamandaris broke the program record for most eagles in a season with six. He topped Eric Edwards (2016-17) and Mike Kirby (2005-06) who are tied with five apiece.
In only his third tournament this season,
Ryan Monastero recorded his best finish t-31. The junior improved his score throughout the tournament finishing with a two-over-par 73 in the final round. Monastero carded six birdies, including a stretch of three birdies in four holes in today's round.
Sophomore
Nikita Gubenko finished t-22 in the 80-player tournament.
