FAIRFAX, Va. - The George Mason softball team (13-12, 3-3 A-10) earned an 8-5 win over Siena (9-11) on Saturday afternoon.
After a two-win day for the Saints yesterday, Siena came out strong, scoring their first four runs in just three innings.
The Saints hopped on the board in the top of the first inning off an RBI double. After keeping the Patriots scoreless in the bottom of the first, Siena added one more run to their total in the top of the second inning off an RBI single to take the 2-0 advantage.
Still able to keep Mason scoreless in the bottom of the second, Siena took the 4-0 advantage after scoring on a two RBI single up the middle.
Mason had a hot hitting inning in the bottom of the third, scoring five runs to take their first lead of the game. With the bases loaded, junior
Rachel Warrens hit a three RBI triple up the middle into deep center field to bring home the Patriots first three runs of the game.
Sophomore
Marlaina Bozek then followed Warrens triple up with an RBI triple of her own. Junior
Haley Taormina then hit an RBI double out to left field to bring home Mason's fifth run of the inning.
Siena then tied the game back up 5-5 in the top of the fourth inning off an RBI double.
Mason then answered back in the bottom of the fourth inning courtesy of a two RBI home run senior
EJ Bankson. The Patriots then had the 7-5 advantage.
The Green and Gold then sealed their fate in the bottom of the sixth inning after scoring one more run off an RBI single to left field from Taormina. Mason was able to hold the Saints to three outs in the first three batters, earning themselves the 8-5 victory.
The pitching effort from graduate student
Cheyenne Van Pelt was enough to hold off the Saints, earning the victory for the Green and Gold. Van Pelt, 3-5 on the mound this season, faced 17 at-bats, tallying two strikeouts and three hits. Freshman
Alexandra Anderson earned the start in today's game, pitching just 2.1 innings.

The Patriots will travel down to Harrisonburg for a mid-week doubleheader against the Dukes of James Madison on Wednesday Mar. 30 with first pitch scheduled for 3 p.m.
